About the Workshop

Loani uses the iconic tea cosy to demonstrate the wild and sculptural possibilities of knitting. You will be learning to knit in the round on two circular needles – a skill you can then transfer to knitting socks and jumpers and bags and all sorts of fabulous things. And you will learn to knit all kinds of beautiful motifs and accessories.

If you can knit a stitch and purl a stitch and cast on and cast off, you can join this class. If you consider yourself to be an advanced knitter and would like to start to knit outside the square of a pattern, this might also be the class for you.

Done Loani’s Workshop Before?

If you have done a workshop with Loani before – be assured - she will have some new and wonderful knitting techniques for you to learn. Perhaps some cable knitting, or loopy knitting or Fair Isle knitting. So much to learn, so little time. She promises to send you home happy.

About the Queen of the Tea Cosies

Loani Prior lives on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast where her woolly obsessions border on becoming a disorder. The Queen of the Tea Cosies admits to having a knit change since publishing her first book, Wild Tea Cosies in 2008. She has begun exhibiting her knitted objets d’art in galleries, giving Wild Knitting workshops and judging the odd tea cosy competition. A chord struck and the tea cosy fetishists out in the open in droves, Loani continues to champion the cause of the iconic tea cosy with her second book, REALLY Wild Tea Cosies. Loani’s new creations, though wackier than ever, remain practical and always funny. No modern knitter would be worth her wool without a presence on the web. You can find Loani’s funny knitty diary at www.grandpurlbaa.com

What to bring

  • Small 3-cup teapot. Small round Chinese teapots are perfect our purpose. (It is important to only bring a small teapot so that you will be able to finish the project in the two days.)
  • 8 ply wool – 2 balls main colour and 5 different coloured balls. For the best results, choose colours you love and wool you love. And there will be much to choose from right here in the fabulous new Wool Addiction shop.
  • 2 pairs of 5mm circular needles 60 cm length from tip to tip. NOTE: if you don’t own these already, purchase a good brand, something like Addi Turbo Circular needles or Knit Pro or Knit Picks, you’ll love using them and you’ll have them forever.
  • 1 pair of 4 mm regular knitting needles
  • 1 pair of 4 mm double pointed needles
  • 1 cable holder (optional)
  • Note book
  • Scissors
  • Wool darning needle
  • 1 x 4mm crochet hook

There will be wool available for sale at the workshop but be sure to have your own knitting needles and tea pot and all other paraphernalia.
